If you are preaparing for your trip to Tajikistan and applying for a Tajikistan visa or e-visa, you may be asked to provide a Tajikistan Letter of Invitation (LOI) or visa support letter from a licensed travel company in Tajikistan.

The good news? Getting a Tajikistan LOI is usually pretty straightforward. I have traveled to Tajikistan repeatedly and went through the LOI process myself when my 2025 and 2026 e-visa applications required one.

Whether you are heading off to explore the legendary Pamir Highway or trek around the remote corners of the Fann Mountains, understanding the Tajikistan LOI process, if you require one, is a key part of making your journey as smooth as possible.

A Tajikistan Letter of Invitation (LOI) is a document issued by a Tajik organization or licensed travel company to support a foreigner’s visa application. It may also be referred to as a Tajikistan visa support letter, invitation letter, or visa support confirmation.

The exact requirements depend on your nationality and the type of visa you are applying for. Tajikistan has separate systems for its electronic visa and standard visa applications, so don’t assume that every traveler will need an LOI.

For travelers who are asked to provide one, the process is generally straightforward: you provide your passport details and trip information to an authorized Tajik organization, which obtains the necessary invitation or support documentation for your application.

In short: a Tajikistan LOI is visa support documentation. It is not the same thing as the Tajikistan visa itself.

Who Needs a Tajikistan LOI?

Not everyone traveling to Tajikistan needs a Letter of Invitation. Whether you need one depends on your nationality, visa type, and how you are applying.

If you hold a passport from 52 countries on the visa-free entry list, you generally do not need a Tajikistan LOI simply to enter the country under the visa-free scheme.

However, travelers applying for a Tajikistan e-visa or standard visa will most likely be asked to provide additional documentation, including a letter of invitation or visa support letter. This can vary depending on your nationality and application.

You may need a Tajikistan LOI if:

You are applying for a Tajikistan visa that requires supporting documentation.
Your e-visa application specifically asks you to provide a letter of invitation.
You are applying for a visa through a Tajik embassy or consulate.
You are applying for a visa type or duration that requires additional supporting documentation.
An embassy, consulate, or Tajik authorities specifically request an invitation or visa support confirmation.

Important: If your Tajikistan e-visa application asks you to upload an LOI, you should follow that request even if you have previously entered Tajikistan without one.

How to Get a Tajikistan Visa Support Letter

To get your Tajikistan letter of invitation, you will need to apply through a licensed travel agency in Tajikistan. Once your agent sends off to have your Tajikistan visa support letter approved, most will send you a digital copy of your Tajikistan LOI within a few business days.

You will typically need to provide:

A copy of your passport.
Your travel dates and a rough itinerary (don’t worry, this doesn’t have to be set in stone).
The embassy or consulate where you plan to apply (if applicable).

Fees vary depending on the agency and how fast you need it processed.

Do I Need a Tajikistan LOI for an E-Visa?

Not necessarily.

The Tajikistan e-visa system allows eligible foreign nationals to apply online without visiting a Tajik diplomatic mission. However, some applicants may be asked to provide additional documentation during the application process.

If you have already submitted your e-visa application and receive an email asking for a Tajikistan letter of invitation, you will need to obtain the requested document and upload it to your application.

This is exactly what happened to me with my Tajikistan e-visa application in 2025. I had already submitted the application before being asked to provide an LOI.

Tajikistan LOI Requirements

The exact requirements can vary depending on the organization issuing the letter and your visa application, but you will generally be asked for:

Passport copy
Planned entry and exit dates
Nationality
Date of birth

My Tajikistan LOI Experience: 2025 Timeline

I have been traveling back and forth to Tajikistan for the past decade and have obtained countless e-visas and entered visa-free for times than I can count.

Ever since 2022, I have been asked for various supporting documents, including flight confirmations, itineraries, and even accommodation bookings when applying for Tajik e-visas.

However, after applying for my e-visa in 2025, I was asked for a Tajik visa support letter. Luckily, my partner on the ground in Tajikistan was able to procure my Tajik letter of invitation in no time.

Here is my timeline of the e-visa process with a Tajik LOI in 2025:

April 23, 2025: Completed and paid the Tajik e-visa application.
May 2, 2025: Received e-mail requesting a letter of invitation and to upload it to my application.
May 3, 2025: Sent Tajik partner a message in the evening that I needed the LOI, along with a photo of my passport info page and planned date of entry and exit.
May 5, 2025: Received my Tajik LOI in the early morning and uploaded it to my application shortly after. By midday, I received another e-mail requesting that I upload a scanned copy of my passport, rather than a JPEG image. Used the Camscanner app to create a PDF of my passport. Of course, when I went to upload it, the Tajik e-visa website was down, so I had to wait until late evening, when it was back up and running, to upload it to my e-visa application.
May 7, 2025: Received notification of Tajik e-visa approval in the early morning.

Final Tips for Your Tajikistan Visa & Letter of Invitation Process

Start early. Give yourself a few weeks to sort out the paperwork, just in case. As you can see from the timeline of my case, it took 15 days from the start of the application to approval.
Check embassy requirements if you will be applying at one. Not all embassies have the same rules, and sometimes they add their own quirks.
Double-check your documents. Make sure your passport has at least six months of validity and a few blank pages.
Print everything. Always bring a hard copy of your Tajikistan letter of invitation and any other paperwork, even if you have an e-visa.
